Our story began long before either of us realized what God was doing behind the scenes.
Around 2006 or 2007, I met Chris through our Chin community during a CYO event in Maryland. He was one of my older brothers’ friends. I remember he was this cute high school wrestler from Battle Creek, Michigan, and I had the biggest crush on him. 😍😂 Over the years, our paths crossed through family, friends, church events, and community gatherings. Sometimes he would visit Indianapolis to see his sisters and spend time with my brothers, and sometimes I would visit friends in Battle Creek and see him there too.
As life moved forward, we both grew up, became adults, and eventually lost touch. Years passed.
Then, after nearly 15 years, everything changed.
On August 25, 2025, my mom and I were at the Indianapolis City-County Building when I unexpectedly ran into Chris and his family. At first, I wasn’t even sure he remembered me. I said, “Hey Chris, it’s me, Ahniang.” He smiled, gave me a hug, and of course remembered me. Before leaving, he asked for my Instagram so we could stay in touch.
Later that evening, he sent me a message that said, “Good seeing you today. I was surprised you remembered me.” Safe to say… he slid into the DMs. 😂😂
At first, we casually talked here and there. Nothing serious. Then, little by little, God kept bringing us back into each other’s lives.
What neither of us expected was how quickly our mothers saw something special between us.
Our parents had known each other for many years, and as our families spent more time together, our mothers began talking seriously about marriage before Chris and I had even fully processed what was happening. Looking back now, it feels like God had been orchestrating every detail long before we understood it. In our Chin culture, arranged marriages are a cherished tradition, and our families believed we would be a wonderful match.
During that season, I had been praying deeply for my future husband. I had always dreamed of becoming a wife and mother, but I never enjoyed modern dating. I often joked that I wished my husband would simply find me and marry me. I never imagined that prayer would unfold the way it did through an arranged marriage.
On December 21, 2025, I found out that Chris’s family wanted to come and formally ask for my hand in marriage. I was completely surprised, but deep down, I also felt an overwhelming sense of peace. I truly believed this was God’s answer to my prayers.
2 days later, on December 23, Chris and I finally sat down privately and had our first truly honest conversation about our future. We both shared that we believed God had brought us together. Chris told me he wanted to move forward, but first he wanted to seek my brothers’ blessing because he respected him deeply and never wanted him to feel betrayed.
The next morning, on Christmas Day, he came to my house emotional, sincere, and completely certain. He told me he had received my brothers’ blessing and that he was ready to spend the rest of his life with me.
Just a few days later, on December 28, 2025, surrounded by both of our families, Chris formally proposed according to our Chin traditions and customs. It was one of the most meaningful days of our lives. The love, honor, and respect shown by both families made us feel incredibly valued and supported as we began this new chapter together.
Since then, our relationship has grown so naturally and beautifully. The more time we spend together, the more we realize how much we have in common: our love for family, faith, hard work, communication, and building a future together. Chris is thoughtful, disciplined, kind, and deeply intentional in everything he does. I admire the way he loves his family, serves others, and brings peace and happiness into my life.
Today, as we prepare for our wedding on July 11, 2026, we are overwhelmed with gratitude. What started as a childhood friendship became a love story neither of us could have planned ourselves.
Without a doubt, we believe this story was written by God long before we ever understood it ourselves, and we cannot wait to begin the rest of our lives together.
